|"Where Vocations are Fostered"
|The Serra Club of Saginaw
Established June 20, 1951
On June 20, 2017 The Saginaw Serra club hosted its 10th Annual Bishop Robert Carlson Seminarian Endowment Fund
Dinner at The Swan Valley Golf & Banquet Center. Two hundred and fifty five people enjoyed an evening filled with
good company, good food, several raffles and a plethora of silent auction items. Fr. Tony Russo from Our Lady of
Consolation Parish in Rockford Michigan was the main speaker. His vocation came out of two tragedy's; the death of
his fiancé and the death of his father. As he shared his story he kept telling us to “keep planting the seed of
vocations” because you never know what will become of that planting. He said his father planted that seed several
times and it finally came to root! He really struggled following the death of his fiancé and by the grace of God it did lead
to a vocation to the priesthood. Bishop Cistone gave us an update on our seminarians and their assignments for the
summer and coming year. There will be a new seminarian from our diocese beginning in the Fall. Our MC for the
evening was Sue Smith former host from WSGW Listen to The Mrs. radio program. 60 attendees ended their evening
leaving with silent auction prizes including a Kayak, paintings, sketches,a garden bench, beautiful garden flowers, gift
baskets for cooking, fishing, picnics, food baskets, etc. We were able to raise over $15,000.00. The final check will be
given to the Bishop at the Serra Clubs night out for the priests, sisters, deacons, seminarians and their parents in
August. A big thank you goes out to the planning committee of this years event: Paul Dombrowski, Bob Guldenzoph, Bill
& Ruth Ruger, John & Marian Moll and Mary Catherine Siers. Within the last 10 years this event has raised almost
$100,000.00 for seminarian education! We are grateful we can do this for our bishop and these men. Thank you for
supporting us all these years!
